Master Bedroom Addition Make Nighttime A Joy

By admin on March 17, 2017

“I was just sick and tired of sharing our bedroom with Nick’s business,” Tara said. “He had the dresser pushed up into the corner of the room so he could get a desk and chair in there. It made sense to keep his work stuff away from the kids – believe me, they are more than capable of spilling juice all over his laptop, they’ve done it before! – but he’s a night owl and I am not. After a long day at the hospital, I want to just close my eyes and go to sleep. He’s really good about being as quiet as he can, but papers rustle, there’s the light from the computer, his phone goes off. We needed a different solution.”

“My first idea was to convert the basement into a home office,” Nick said. “The kids never go down there, and it’s really private. But we started looking into it, and the costs of moving the furnace and addressing the dampness issue down there were pretty high.”

“We could have a first floor addition put on for the same money,” Tara explained. “A nice, big master bedroom addition, with two walk in closets and a bathroom.” She laughed. “That was the easiest decision we ever made!”

Needing more space is the number one reason homeowners in Framingham are having master bedroom additions built. Some couples find it’s challenging or painful to access an upstairs bedroom on a regular basis, while other homeowners want to reward themselves with an upgrade to the room they sleep in every night.

“I hadn’t realized how much more relaxing the new bedroom would be,” Tara said. “Our  contractors did an exceptional job making the master bedroom addition look like it had always been there. It’s warm and comfortable and quiet. Now Nick has our old bedroom for his office – we’ve put in some filing cabinets and bookshelves for him, and had some storage built in – and everyone is happy!”

Do You Have Sad Front Porch Stairs? There is Help for Your House!

By admin on January 13, 2017

“When my husband’s mother comes over for a visit, I just cringe,” Ariel said. “It’s quite a drive from her place in the Berkshires to Framingham, and that ride is hard on her hip. Her balance isn’t what it could be. And then she gets out of the car and has to come up our front porch steps. They’re not straight at all, and the second and fourth one are wobbly. There’s no railing. Steven goes out and holds onto her to keep her steady as she comes in, but that’s really not the ideal solution, and believe me, she lets him know.”

Sound familiar? Front porch stairs see a lot of traffic. Think about how many people go in and out of your house over the course of any given day! Lots of time these people are in a hurry, or they’re carrying heavy bags for school or work, or they’re bringing in groceries – which means the front porch stairs get a lot of wear and tear. Wooden porch stairs are especially prone to sagging, twisting and breaking. It doesn’t take long for our New England winters to impact the condition of porch stairs: between the snow, the ice, and the frigid temperatures, damage happens.

Having the front porch stairs replaced is a simple, cost effective way to exponentially enjoy your home more. You won’t have to worry about anyone slipping on your shaky stairs, and safety-boosting railings can be added for extra peace of mind. Switching to PVC or composite decking means you won’t have to worry about the condition of your porch steps for a long time as both of these green building materials are weather and insect resistant. Also PVC and composite porch steps are mold and mildew free – great news for kids’ and pets’ health.

Thanksgiving Proved We Need More Space!

By admin on November 25, 2016

“So I have spent three months telling my kids that I wanted everyone here for Thanksgiving,” Erin said. “And amazingly, everyone listened. They all drove out to Framingham – my four kids, their spouses or partners, and their kids. I turned around twice and suddenly, there were 23 people in my house. It never felt small before, but it was wonderful.” The rest of the family had a great time as well, promising Erin that they’ll be back next year. “Do you know what that means?” Erin asked. “I have a year to add more space to my house.”

Among the most popular home improvements in Framingham are those that add more space to the home. Adding on a room is a popular option, as is having a custom deck added. Both of these solutions can prove to be useful when things get crowded during holiday gatherings and other family fun. “When everyone’s in the house, it can get a little warm,” Erin said. “So if we add a deck with a screened in area over on one side, there will be enough space to get outdoors comfortably.” The screened in area is ideal for containing grandchildren, some of whom are still young enough that they have a hard time staying in the yard. “You don’t want anyone running out in the road here, that’s for sure!” Erin said. “I really like the idea of customizing a deck plan with my family in mind. If we didn’t have the little ones coming over, maybe we’d do things differently. But they are coming over, so I want to make sure things are safe and fun for them.”

Now is a great time to begin the planning process for spring home improvement projects for your home. To find out what’s involved, including a frank, reliable conversation about costs and timelines, get in touch. We’d be happy to answer all of your questions.
